New: Solid terrain
Optionally add a solid base to the terrain, giving the impression it was sliced from a larger landscape. Texture the base separately from the terrain, and use UV mapping to create sedimental structures with ease.
New: Five additional blend modes
Five interesting new blend modes that combine operators in interesting and detailed ways.
This blend mode is a combination of Screen blending and Multiply. It combines two height fields in an interesting way, preserving lots of detail from both operators.
This blend mode mirrors one height field on the other. As a result, you get crater landscapes that resemble the ones from the Fold Operator, but with more complexity.
This blend mode is a bit similar to Add. The resulting height field is always higher than the input height fields. However, it has a different look than Add: Higher areas of the second operator are more present.
Soft Light is pretty much like Overlay. It lowers low areas, and heightens high areas, but in a more subtle way. You can think of Soft Light as a more gentle version of Overlay without the harsh contrast.
Hard Light combines the Multiply and Screen blend modes using the altitude values of the second operator to make its calculations. High and low areas of the second operator are more present.
New: Erosion operator
The new Erosion Operator simulates the effects of abrasion and weathering on the terrain.
Abrasion is a process of erosion which occurs when material being transported wears away at a surface over time. It is the process of friction caused by scuffing, scratching, wearing down, marring, and rubbing away of materials. Terraform4D emulates this with a grid-based simulation.
Coastal erosion occurs where waves of water break on solid ground. The ground is slowly washed away in a characteristic way. Since waves are of random height, the effect gets exponentially stronger closer to the water surface. Terraform4D approximates this with a fast algorithm.
New: Quantize operator
Quantizes a terrain in as many steps as the Count attribute dictates. This creates hard terraces that are suitable for a non-photorealistic look. If you apply a Blur Operator to the output, you get more realistic results.
New: Lock Size / Segments Ratio
Enable this to lock the ratio between terrain size and segments. If enabled, changing the terrain’s X or Z size will also change the X or Z segments, so the number of segments per world unit remains constant.
New: Terrain HUD
The terrain HUD displays information about the active terrain(s) and operator(s), and can be customized in the Terraform4D preferences.
New: Distortion attributes “Local” and “Offset”
The Distortion feature for Noise and Gradient Operators now has the ability to stick to the operator object. Additionally, it can be offset manually. Don’t leave your random variations up to chance!
New: Filter Operator Difference Map for shading and export
Filter Operators now provide a Difference Map that can be rendered with the Operator Shader, and is available in the Bitmap Export as well.
New: Adjustment Operator “Relative Offset” option
Enabling this option will make the Offset behave like in previous versions. Offset is defined by a percentage of the altitude range of the input terrain. Disabling this option will change Offset to absolute values. Now you can even offset a completely flat terrain, and use the Adjustment Operator as a Generator.
New: Change Blend Mode commands
Two new commands that will change the blend mode of the selected operator(s) forward or backward. A great workflow improvement, especially if you assign keyboard shortcuts to these commands.
Reworked Convolution-based Blur Operator
The new Gauss Blur comes in higher quality and calculates faster.
Reworked Unsharp Mask in Sharpen Operator
The Unsharp Mask kernel in the Sharpen operator has been rewritten and delivers much more distinct and predictable results now.
Improved Blend Mode Behavior
A new blend mode order adds clarity. Modes that behave in a multiplicative way (like „Multiply“, and all the new blend modes) do not require you to adjust your Gain anymore, just to get sensible results.
You can now create a tool palette that contains the Terraform4D objects and the most important commands, and dock the palette into you Cinema 4D layout.
Optimizations and bugfixes
There weren’t many bugs to fix, but there was room for optimization. Numerous little changes in the Terraform4D UI and code have been overhauled, optimized for speed and stability, to make usage and performance even smoother.
Updated Browser Library and Help
The Browser Library includes new feature demonstrations, as well as complete example scenes from real artists. The help has been updated with new content and an improved visual style.
